Beneficial Herbs

Herbs can be sold even if they aren’t tested for safety or effectiveness. Search for the United States Pharmacopeia or Consumer-Lab.com seal of approval. Advice should be sought if there is a history of high blood pressure, heart conditions, or diabetes. Some herbs can contradict medicine prescribed for these conditions.

Herbs can be incorporated into cooking or teas.  Turmeric helps ease arthritis because it contacts curcumin, which is an herb that has anti-inflammatory properties. Studies conducted by Johns Hopkins USM shows that using turmeric used with quercetin reduces polyps in the colon by sixty percent. Another study showed that turmeric helps remove plaque from the brain in Alzheimer patients. Cinnamon lowers blood sugar and cholesterol. The warning is to make sure to use one-six grams water-soluble extract.

When frying or grilling meat, carcinogens can be destroyed by using rosemary and garlic on the meat before cooking. Rosemary is noted to stop tumors from developing. Garlic helps with high blood pressure. Nausea, arthritis pain and cancer risk can be prevented or reduced by using ginger. Studies show that ginger works just as well as Dramamine. Headaches, indigestion or stress giving you trouble? Try holy basil extract in a tea. This can be ordered through an organic shop or seeds are available. St. John's Wort is used for depression and the warning is not to take it if you are taking antidepressants. It can help get you to sleep because it contacts melatonin.

These are just a few of the herbs that can benefit your health. Be sure to ask your doctor about usage or dosage prior to going on a regimen that may be harmful.
